Enough for roughly 300 to 400 bottles at drinking strength, depending on cask size and how much evaporates over the years (the "angel's share"). At 21, that is enough to keep, share with everyone they care about, sell some and bottle the rest, or any combination. It is a meaningful quantity, not a token.
After purchase, you can download an electronic certificate of ownership from your Portfolio page. To do this, you'll first need to verify your account via Account > Verify Account.
Whisky casks are a tangible asset that has historically appreciated with age. Unlike stocks and shares, the value of a maturing cask is tied to a physical product with genuine scarcity. Decant Index has facilitated over 2,000 successful exits returning more than £7m to investors, backed by decades of whisky expertise and over £100m in stock sourced and priced competitively. Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns.
Yes. Sample at our tasting suite at 105 Piccadilly, Mayfair, where our team will help you explore distilleries and find the right cask for your taste and long-term intent before you commit.
Yes. We list casks at every age, from new make filled this year through to mature stock with decades behind it. Older casks cost more, because whisky casks generally appreciate as they mature: more years in bond means more scarcity, more concentration, and less liquid (the angel's share). If you want a cask that will be 25 years old in five years rather than 25, an already-aged cask is the route.
Yes. Decant Index can arrange group viewing days at the bonded warehouses in Alloa, Scotland, and where possible pair these with a distillery tour. Bonded warehouses are secure working sites with strict health and safety rules, so visits are by arrangement only.
Yes. When you're ready, you can have the cask bottled — under your own label if you like subject to duty and bottling costs.
Every item listed on the Decant Index marketplace goes through in-house authentication and rigorous due diligence before listing, confirming authenticity and ensuring it stacks up on value.
Storage and insurance runs roughly £75 per year per cask.
Decant Index offers several exit options. You can list your cask on the Decant Index marketplace and sell to another buyer, sell back to Decant Index directly (after the recommended hold period and subject to demand), or bottle your cask through the Decant Bond team to either sell, gift or drink. Each cask holds 300-400 bottles at maturity.
